Smell - When I was helping to stir the muffins with the electric whisk, I could smell the sweet sensation of cocoa powder, sugar, milk and eggs. It smelt sweet and pleasant

See - The mixture was brown, of course, and it looked creamy and very rich. I could see that the mixture was good looking and attractive.

Taste - Above is a picture (1st one) of my friend Temu and I tasting the mixture. It was sensational! The mixture tasted so scrumptious. And it was very moist and soft as well.

Feel - When the muffins were baked, and we pulled them out, I could feel that the crust was crunchy. The muffins themselves were fluffy and puffy at the same time!

Hear - When the muffins were finished baking, I heard the alarm warning us, so I scurried along to the oven with a bunch of friends and we carefully hoisted the muffin trays out. Outside of the school kitchen, I heard kids running around playing. It was an enjoyable day.

My argument must include why or why not

Everyone knows that a babysitter gets paid when they take care of either a pet or child. But my question is, should Grandparents get paid for babysitting their Grandchildren?

Babysitters get paid most oftenly from their neighbours, not a family member or relation. But some people think that grandparents should be paid for taking care of their grandchildren. I think not. My reason for this is because grandparents should value the time they get to spend with their grandchildren. I think they shouldn’t be paid because when they babysit, they should be thinking about spending fun moments with their grandchildren instead of money.

I think that some grandparents might actually agree with this statement, because most grandpas and grannies just want to spend time with their little ones. And also, it would be a good advantage for a grandparent and grandchild to get along and develop a close relationship. Furthermore, I think that grandparents shouldn’t be given money for babysitting because sometimes, some people young children have younger siblings that need looking after and they help out with them. And most times, after spending a lot of time with their younger brother/s or sister/s they don’t get paid from their parents.

I think that people only get paid when they are older and actually need money, as only sometimes when younger children get paid, they may only spend it on lollies and junk foods. This is why I think grandparents shouldn’t receive any money for minding their grandchildren. Those were all of my valid reasons why I think grandparents should not be paid any money. Especially if they don’t want or need it.

I argue with everyone else that thinks grandparents should be paid. Because it wouldn’t be fair if another younger family member minded their younger siblings or family members and would earn nothing out of it.

We had to write an explanation or an argument to explain why or why not grandparents should be paid for looking after their grandchildren. We also had to give reasons to show why.

Do you get along with your classmates well? Sometimes, getting along with the other children in your class is difficult. Luckily for you, I will explain how you can easily get along with your classmates.

If you’re having real trouble getting along with the children in your class, these are probably some of the best ways to manage your friendship.

• Be friendly, kind and talk nicely

Most people like a friendly person. If you want to befriend a kid in your class, just smile, use kind words and ask them if they need any help with anything or if they’d like to play something with you.

• Help them out with something

Sometimes, some children may be struggling to finish off their work, or may be having trouble fitting in, if they’re new. Walk over and offer them your help. This way, while helping them, you can talk to each other about other things as well as school things.

• Play with them when they’re down

If you see one of your classmates sitting on their own, or being left out, go play with them and try to make them feel better. If you play with others when nobody else wants to, it shows that you are a kind person.

If you follow all of these ways to get along with the other children in your class, you’d probably have befriended the whole class then. And at the end of the school day, wave or say goodbye, and you’d definitely get one back.

I did some addition and subtraction strategies on a site called IXL which can help children with their learning (mostly maths). I liked the activities and questions I was given to answer. They made me think and were interesting. Here is a screenshot of what the questions looked like…

This question has something to do with addition.

I read this question very carefully and after a short while, I clicked on the last answer, 13.8.

I also took a screenshot of the word “Fantastic!.” This told me that I got the correct answer.

I did a few more of these activities and got them all right. I think that adding and subtracting decimals is a fun thing to do. I liked working on adding and subtracting decimals and next I would like to learn about adding and subtracting mixed and improper fractions.

You read all the time. Sometimes you read just for fun. Other times you read for schoolwork. No matter what you are reading, what you read has meaning. You can connect to what you read. Making connections is important. It’s giving your brain a place to store what you read. Your brain is like a file box. The new information is kept in a safe place. You can think about it later. When you want to use the information, it’s there in your brain. The more connections you make, the better. If you have a lot of connections your brain can work faster. If you have many ways to think about something, the information will be easier to find. There are different ways to connect as you read. One kind of connection is self-to-text. This is when you realize something you read in a story has happened to you in your own life. Usually, this kind of connection comes with the emotions you felt at that time. It may make you feel happy, afraid, or sad. Another kind of connection is text-to-text. This is when reading a story reminds you about a story you read before. The last kind of connection is text-to-world. It reminds you of something you have seen happen to someone you know or have seen in the news.

Room 7 Paragraph

In class, we had to write a paragraph about Room 7, our class! It was a paragraph which we had to include detailed sentences, the topic sentence, and the concluding sentence.

Room 7 is a very productive class. Room 7, a class in Glen Innes School, has just started to get creative. Just recently, the class has been doing loads of art. In this classroom, you will find colourful things everywhere, from colours and pictures to words and work. There are a lot of students in Room 7 who like to bring their own colourful things. Even their bags are entertaining. I guess you could say that this class is very imaginative, because they are always doing things that make their room better and innovative. Now when you walk into this classroom, you will see that there are all sorts of things you can do to make something beautiful.

Explaining what a Haiku poem is:

Haiku poems are originally from Japan. Haiku poems have 3 lines.

They have a special rhythm to it. The first and last lines of Haiku poems have 5 syllables, while the middle line has 7.

A Haiku poem also is most often written about nature, weather, and other things that will be most recognisable to kids.

This was the first activity I worked on. It taught me how to add mixed fractions. Here are the steps…

Steps for adding mixed fractions:

First, convert the mixed fractions into improper fractions (Improper fractions are fractions where the numerator is larger than the denominator). Next, find a common denominator for both fractions then add the numerators. The denominator stays the same.Lastly, convert the answer into a mixed fraction.

Speed of the water

Today we went down to look at the speed of the water in Omaru Creek.  We made some paper boats, took it down there and let them sail in the water.  It was great to see the water flowing and not standing still like the first time we visited there.
